[PHOTOS] Philippines vs Korea: Edward Kelly, Sung Jong Lee fight at ‘ONE: Roots of Honor’ in Manila

The Philippines and South Korea were among the 18 countries represented at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” It was the second ONE Championship event in 2019 held in the Philippines.

Featuring two kickboxing contests, two Muay Thai bouts and 11 mixed martial arts matches, “ONE: Roots of Honor” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 12, 2019. In the ninth bout of the evening, Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 35, of the Philippines faced Sung Jong Lee, 33, of South Korea.

Blue Corner

Lee started his martial arts training in taekwondo as a young kid. He went on to become a NAGA No-Gi Grappling Champion.

“ONE: Roots of Honor” marked Lee’s fourth ONE Championship bout. He is training out of Eddie Bravo’s 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Korea.

Red Corner

As an MMA fighter, Kelly has been competing professionally since 2007. He is training out Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines.

“ONE: Roots of Honor” marked Kelly’s 13th ONE Championship outing. He holds one of the fastest knockouts in ONE Championship’s featherweight division.

Fight Result

Kelly and Lee competed in an MMA match in the featherweight division. Kemp Cheng served as the referee.

Cheng put a stop to the featherweight bout after 2 minutes and 51 seconds in the second round. Kelly knocked out Lee via strikes.

Winning at “ONE: Roots of Honor” improved Kelly’s professional MMA record to 12 wins and 6 losses. On the other hand, Lee now has 4 wins and 5 losses.

In the co-main event, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 23, of the Philippines challenged reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Yosuke “The Ninja” Saruta, 31, of Japan in a rematch. The Filipino challenger knocked out the Japanese defending champion in the fourth round.

In the main event, reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam defended his belt against former champion Narantungalag “Tungaa” Jadambaa, 43, of Mongolia. The Vietnamese-Australian defending champion knocked out the Mongolian challenger in the second round.

Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the United States were also represented at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” Check the complete results on Conan Daily.

South Korea and China were among the 14 countries represented at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent.” It is the second ONE Championship event in 2019.

Featuring one kickboxing contest, four Muay Thai matches and nine mixed martial arts bouts, “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the third bout of the evening, Sung Jong Lee, 33, of South Korea faced Tang Kai, 23, of China.

Tang trains out of Dragon Warrior in Shanghai. He wanted to spoil Lee’s second featherweight outing and claim victory for himself in his grand premiere.

Lee is a NAGA No-Gi Grappling Champion who first began his martial arts journey by training in taekwondo. After experiencing success in the discipline, he shifted his focus to the grappling arts and began training at Eddie Bravo’s 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu.

Fight Result

Lee and Tang competed in an MMA match in the featherweight division. Olivier Coste served as the referee of the contest.

Coste put a stop to the featherweight bout between Lee and Tang after 1 minute and 14 seconds in the second round. The Chinese fighter knocked out his Korean opponent.

Winning at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” improved Tang’s professional MMA record to 9 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Lee now has 4 wins and 4 losses.

In the co-main event, Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 29, of Benguet, Philippines and Lowen Tynanes, 28, of Hawaii, United States competed in the first bout of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix quarter-finals. The Hawaiian fighter knocked out his Filipino opponent in the first round.

In the main event, Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, 30, of Brazil challenged reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, of the Philippines. The challenger dethroned the defending champion via unanimous decision.

Australia, Algeria, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, the Philippines, Thailand, Tunisia and the United States were also represented at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent.” Check the complete results here.

USA vs South Korea: Garry Tonon, Sung Jong Lee to fight at ‘ONE: Heart of the Lion’ in Singapore

The United States and South Korea will be represented at “ONE: Heart of the Lion,” a ONE Championship event taking place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on November 9, 2018. In the sixth bout of the evening, Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon, 26, of New Jersey, United States will face Sung Jong Lee, 33, of Cheonan, South Korea.

Tonon is a multiple-time No Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion who began his martial arts career as a wrestler, competing extensively throughout grade school. He was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age 14, enrolling at Tom DeBlass’s Ocean County BJJ and became one of his most dedicated students.

In 2008, Tonon won his first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world title in the juvenile blue belt division. In 2018, he made a successful professional mixed martial arts debut by knocking out Richard “Lion Heart” Corminal, 36, of the Philippines and Malaysia.

Having won multiple tournaments across the globe, Tonon is one of the world’s most decorated grapplers today. He is a former International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Champion, a two-time IBJJF World No-Gi Champion and a four-time Eddie Bravo Invitational Champion.

On the other hand, Lee is a former NAGA No Gi Grappling Champion who holds a professional MMA record of 4 wins and 2 losses. Always looking to finish on the mat, he is a dangerous grappler who is capable of ending matches in a variety of ways.

“ONE: Heart of the Lion” marks Lee’s second professional MMA bout in Singapore. The Cheonan native made his ONE Championship debut on May 18, 2018 in the country where he lost to local hero Amir Khan, 23.

In the co-main event of “ONE: Heart of the Lion,” Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 30, of Singapore and Kazuki Tokudome, 31, of Tokyo, Japan will compete in an MMA match in a catch weight of 73 kg. In the main event, reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil will defend his title against ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of Kiangan, Ifugao, Philippines.
