[PHOTOS] Japan vs Singapore: Shinya Aoki, Christian Lee fight at ‘ONE: Enter the Dragon’

The United States and Japan were among the 19 countries represented at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” on May 17, 2019. ONE Championship held the combat sports event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

Featuring 10 mixed martial arts matches and six ONE Super Series contests, which were six kickboxing bouts, “ONE: Enter the Dragon” was the Singapore-based martial arts organization’s second event in 2019 that took place in Singapore. The main event of the evening was between Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan and Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 20, of Singapore.

Lee was one of the two hometown fighters at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” while Aoki was one of the four representatives of Japan. Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, the Republic of Moldova, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States were also represented.

Blue Corner

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on June 21, 1998, Lee is a five-time Pankration World Champion. He has been competing professionally since 2015 and “ONE: Enter the Dragon” marked his 15th ONE Championship bout.

Lee is the younger brother of reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, 22. They are both training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore and United MMA in Hawaii, United States.

Born on May 9, 1983 in Shizuoka City, Japan, Aoki graduated from Waseda University in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. He has been competing professionally since 2003 and joined ONE Championship in 2012.

Training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, Aoki became the ONE Lightweight World Champion on April 5, 2013, lost the title on November 11, 2016 and regained it on March 31, 2019. “ONE: Enter the Dragon” marked his 13th ONE Championship bout.

Fight Result

Christian challenge Aoki for the ONE Lightweight World Championship title. Olivier Coste served as the referee.

Coste put a stop to the championship contest after 51 seconds in the second round. Christian knocked out Aoki.

Winning at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” improved the professional MMA record of Christian to 12 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Aoki now has 43 wins and 9 losses.

“ONE: Enter the Dragon” Co-Main Event

Both fighting out of the Netherlands, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken, 34, and Regian “The Immortal” Eersel, 25, competed for the inaugural ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Championship in the co-main event. The latter won the belt via unanimous decision.

The Philippines and Japan were among the 19 countries represented at “ONE: A New Era” at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 2019. It was the first ever ONE Championship event to take place in the country.

“ONE: A New Era” featured 11 mixed martial arts bouts and four ONE Super Series matches, which include two kickboxing contests and two Muay Thai contests. In the main event, Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan challenged reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of the Philippines in a rematch.

Aoki was one of the six fighters from Japan on the “ONE: A New Era” card. Folayang was one of the three fighters from the Philippines.

Aoki is training out of Evolve MMA. “ONE: A New Era” marked his 12th ONE Championship bout.

Folayang is training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines. “ONE: A New Era” marked her 16th ONE Championship bout.

Fight Result

Olivier Coste served as the referee of the rematch between Folayang and Aoki. The three judges were Jonathan Lai and Ian Cartwright, both from Canada, and Joey Lepiten from the Philippines.

Coste put a stop to the contest after 2 minutes and 34 seconds in the first round. Aoki submitted Folayang via arm triangle.

Winning at “ONE: A New Era” improved Aoki’s professional MMA record to 43 wins and 8 losses. On the other hand, Folayang now has 21 wins and 7 losses.

“ONE: A New Era” Co-Main Events 

In the first co-main event, Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 39, of Brazil became the new ONE Bantamweight World Champion. Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 31, of the Philippines was dethroned after his disqualification in the second round due to illegal elbow strikes.

In the second co-main event, Ken Hasegawa, 32, of Japan challenged “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang, 33, of Myanmar in a rematch. The Burmese champion successfully defended his  ONE Middleweight World Championship belt.

In the third co-main event, reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “The Unstoppable” Angela Lee, 22, of Singapore failed to dethrone reigning “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 31, of China. It was the Singaporean contender’s first loss.

Australia, Cyprus, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Thailand and the United States were also represented at “ONE: A New Era.” Check all the official results on Conan Daily.

Training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan is the new reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion. He earned a redemptive win over Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of the Philippines in their rematch at “ONE: A New Era,” the first ever ONE Championship event to be held in Japan.

Training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines, Folayang was the defending champion in the main event of “ONE: A New Era,”  which took place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 2019. After eight preliminary bouts and six main card bouts, which include three co-main events, the crowd at the Ryogoku Kokugikan finally witnessed the rematch between Folayang and Aoki. Olivier Coste served as the referee while the three judges were Jonathan Lai and Ian Cartwright, both from Canada, and Joey Lepiten from the Philippines.

Aoki was one of the six fighters from Japan on the “ONE: A New Era” card. Folayang was one of the three fighters from the Philippines.

28 March 2019 – Tokyo, Japan: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), recently held the official ONE: A NEW ERA Kick-Off Press Conference on March 28, 2019 at the Ritz Carlton in Tokyo, Japan. In attendance were main event competitors, reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang and the challenger, former titleholder Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, who were both accompanied by Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, Mr. Chatri Sityodtong.

Also in attendance were competitors in three co-main events, including ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan and her challenger, ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, ONE Middleweight World Champion “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang who defends his title against Ken Hasegawa, ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon who puts his belt on the line against the legendary Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, and finally, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez who are set to make their ONE Championship debuts.

Angela Lee, ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion, stated: “We’ve been training for Xiong Jing Nan for a while now. I think her style and my style match up perfectly. We’re both very aggressive. Aung La N Sang, ONE Middleweight World Champion, stated: “It’s an honor and a dream come true for me to be fighting here in Japan. I want to thank Japan for the hospitality. Ken Hasegawa is a worthy opponent and I can’t wait to run it back with him. This is going to be a fight that fans will definitely enjoy. I am super excited to put on a show for you all this Sunday.”

Ken Hasegawa, ONE World Title Challenger, stated: “This rematch is very important for my career. Last year, we did battle and I gave everything I had. This time, I plan to do the same. I am willing to do whatever it takes to win. Aung La N Sang is an amazing champion, but I plan to shock the world this Sunday.”

Kevin Belingon, ONE Bantamweight World Champion, stated: “This is my first time fighting in Japan, and I’m very happy to be here. I know how important this third fight is with Bibiano [Fernandes]. I’ve trained very hard and fans will be happy with my performance. Looking back at our previous encounters, I know my opponent well now. I think he knows who I am also. I’m looking forward to putting on another show and hopefully get the knockout.”

Bibiano Fernandes, ONE World Title Challenger, stated: “Kevin [Belingon] is a great champion. He has earned everything he has now, and I’m happy for him. But I really truly believe I won the first fight. In this third fight, I’m going to take the belt back. I’m going to prove to everyone that I’m still the best in the world and start a new reign as World Champion.”

Eddie Alvarez, ONE Athlete, stated: “I am focused on my opponent, Timofey [Nastyukhin]. I asked for the most dangerous guy, and I got him. I’ve trained very hard for this fight. My mind and body are ready. I’m looking at that shiny belt right there, it’s the only one I don’t have. That’s the goal. Whatever it takes, however long it takes, my goal is to win the ONE Championship World Title.”

Demetrious Johnson, ONE Athlete, stated: “This is the next step in my evolution as an athlete. It should be interesting. For me it’s a long time coming, fighting in front of my Japanese fan base. I’m not taking Yuya Wakamatsu lightly. I just want to go out there and do what I do best, be the best Demetrious Johnson I can be.”
