Fighting out of Almaty, Kazakhstan, Rustem “Actor” Yensebayev, 28, is scheduled to make his ONE Championship debut on July 7, 2018. He will compete against Fu Chang Xin, 25, of Harbin, China at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” which will take place at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China.

The Almaty native replaced “The Demolition Man” Tang De Pan, 26, of Changsha, China, who was originally set to face Fu at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens.” ONE Championship has yet to explain the replacement.

Yensebayev and Fu will compete in the bantamweight division, which will be the seventh bout at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens.” Currently reigning as the ONE Bantamweight World Champion is Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Brazil

On July 4, 2018, Yensebayev and Fu met at the Roof Top Bar of the Park Hyatt in Guangzhou. They joined nine other pairs of ONE Championship athletes for the official face-off of “ONE: Battle for the Heavens.”

Yensebayev is not the first Kazakh mixed martial artist to compete in the ONE Championship cage. Also fighting out of Almaty, Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov, 30, made his debut in the promotion on November 21, 2015 at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions 4” in Beijing, China.

At “ONE: Dynasty of Champions 4,” Akhtemov dethroned Adriano Moraes, who was then the reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion. The current champion in the division is Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, of the Philippines.

“ONE: Battle for the Heavens” will be headlined by Yodcherry Sityodtong, 19, of Thailand and Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang, 23, of Chinese Taipei for the very first ONE Super Series Kickboxing Atomweight World Champion belt. Prior to the face-off, ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated that the first female ONE Super Series contenders will be joined by “several of the very best martial arts talent from China and the world.”

“I’m still young and my career in ONE Championship is just starting,” the Thai contender added. “But I have big plans and it all starts at ‘ONE: Battle for the Heavens.’ Kai Ting Chuang is a worthy opponent and I am not taking her lightly.”

The Philippines has two representatives at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens” at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China on July 7, 2018, namely Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan, 27, of Iloilo and Gina “Conviction” Iniong, 29, of Baguio City. Both are on the preliminary card.

“ONE: Battle for the Heavens” will kick off with a strawweight bout between Catalan and Adrian “Papua Badboy” Mattheis, 25, of Indonesia. In the fourth bout of the evening, Iniong and Istela Nunes, 25, of Brazil will compete in the women’s atomweight division.

Iniong is a six-time Philippine National Wushu Champion and a member of the famed Team Lakay. On the other hand, Catalan is a Muay Thai World Champion training under Catalan Fighting Systems in Manila.

Catalan was born in Santa Barbara, Iloilo, in the Visayan province of the Philippines, which is known for producing world-class boxers. He started training in martial arts in 2006 with hopes of following in the footsteps of his older brother Rene “D’ Challenger” Catalan, 39, a multiple-time Wushu world champion.

Aside from Rene, Robin has another martial artist brother, Rabin “The Rock” Catalan, 32. The three siblings are all ONE Championship athletes.

Robin would go on to win numerous tournaments in both Wushu and Muay Thai, including the Philippines National Wushu Sanda Championship in 2007 and 2008 and the IFMA World Muay Thai Championship in 2011. Inevitably, just like his brothers, Robin turned his attention to mixed martial arts.

Both Iniong and Robin are competing in ONE Championship for the fifth time. If they both win at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” it will be Iniong’s fourth win and Robin’s third victory in the promotion.

In the main event of “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” Yodcherry Sityodtong, 19, of Thailand and Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang, 23, of Chinese Taipei will compete for the inaugural ONE Super Series Kickboxing Atomweight World Championship. ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated, “World-class martial arts makes a triumphant return to the beautiful city of Guangzhou with another spectacular event.”

Taking place at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China on July 7, 2018, “ONE: Battle for the Heavens” will feature seven mixed martial arts matches and three bouts under ONE Championship’s striking-only league ONE Super Series. Among the 20 fighters on the card, Eddey “The Clown” Kalai, 36, is the sole representative of Malaysia.

Fighting out of Sabah, Malaysia, Kalai was not successful when he made his ONE Championship at “ONE: Global Superheroes” on January 26, 2018. “ONE: Battle for the Heavens” will allow the two-time Southeast Asian Games Boxing Bronze Medalist to redeem himself as he returns for his second bout in the promotion.

Kalai is set to face Peng Xue Wen, 21, of China at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens.” They will compete in the strawweight division whose reigning champion is Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 32, of Japan.

The Sabahan MMA fighter comes from a long line of boxers. After several years spent on the regional boxing circuit, he became intrigued at the prospect of competing in MMA.

In 2013, Kalai made his debut in the cage by taking part in a national amateur tournament. Although he lost, he was instantly hooked and decided to dedicate himself to training in all disciplines and adding new tools to his strong boxing base.

After 10 wins as an amateur with 8 stoppages, Kalai turned professional. Now, the Sabah native finds himself in a promotion with the world’s best martial artists.

“ONE: Battle for the Heavens” will be headlined by Yodcherry Sityodtong, 19, of Thailand and Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang, 23, of Chinese Taipei for the inaugural ONE Super Series Kickboxing Atomweight World Championship. ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated, “World-class martial arts makes a triumphant return to the beautiful city of Guangzhou with another spectacular event.”
