ONE Championship hosted a media day for Eko Roni Saputra, 27, of Indonesia at the Westin Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 5, 2019. With Evolve MMA head coach Eduardo Pamplona, the Indonesian wrestling champion showcased his skills in various demonstrations for media in attendance.

Saputra is set to make his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Roots of Honor” on April 12, 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. During the media day, he said, “I am greatly honored to be part of an amazing company such as ONE Championship.”

“To be among the best martial artists in the world competing on the biggest martial arts platform is definitely a dream come true for me,” Saputra continued. “I have been blessed to have found success in wrestling, and I have every intention of achieving the same in the mixed martial arts world. I am prepared to put in the work and make the sacrifices so that one day, I can bring back a World Championship to Indonesia.”

“Indonesia is a hotbed of talent in mixed martial arts, and I am proud to follow in the footsteps of some of the most talented competitors to come out of the country,” the Indonesian ONE Championship athlete added. “Like them, I am ready to make an impact on the ONE Championship stage.”

Regarded as the number one freestyle wrestler in Indonesian history, Saputra is one of ONE Championship’s latest acquisitions, further bolstering its burgeoning roster of world-class athletes. Known for his dynamic style and explosive takedowns, he has won numerous medals in various international competitions, including the prestigious Southeast Asian Games.

Training out of Singapore, the Indonesian grappler hones his craft at the world-renowned Evolve MMA, advancing his skills in different martial arts disciplines such as wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai. [PHOTOS] Philippines vs Singapore: Edward Kelly, Christian Lee fight at ‘ONE: Eternal Glory’ in Indonesia

The Philippines and Singapore were among the 14 countries represented at “ONE: Eternal Glory.” It is the first event of Singapore-based martial arts organization ONE Championship in 2019.

Featuring 10 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai contests, “ONE: Eternal Glory” took place at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 19, 2019. In the 10th bout of the evening, Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 34, of Baguio City, Philippines faced Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 20, of Tanjong Pagar, Singapore.

It was a rematch between Kelly and Lee. During their first encounter at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” on September 8, 2018 in Shanghai, China, Lee was disqualified due to illegal suplex so the victory was automatically awarded to Kelly.

Blue Corner

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on June 21, 1998, Lee is the younger brother of reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela “Unstoppable” Lee, 22. They are both training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore and United MMA in Hawaii, United States.

Christian is a five-time Pankration World Champion. As an MMA fighter, the Evolve MMA fighter has been competing professionally since 2015.

Red Corner

Born on March 1, 1984 in the Philippines, Kelly is training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines. He competed on the Philippines Wushu Team in 2000 and joined ONE Championship in 2013.

On January 26, 2018, Kelly knocked out Meas Meu, 28, of Cambodia via head kick and punches after 21 seconds in the first round at “ONE: Global Superheroes.” It is the fastest knockout in ONE featherweight history.

Fight Result

Kelly and Christian competed in an MMA bout in the featherweight division at “ONE: Eternal Glory.” Referee Kemp Cheng put a stop to the contest after 2 minutes and 53 seconds in the first round.

Christian knocked out Kelly via strikes. This improved the Singaporean fighter’s professional MMA record to 11 wins and 3 losses.

On the other hand, Kelly now has 11 wins and 6 losses. “ONE: Eternal Glory” marked the second time the Team Lakay athlete was knocked out via strikes in the ONE Championship cage.

“ONE: Eternal Glory” Main Event

In the main event of “ONE: Eternal Glory,” Yosuke “Tobizaru” Saruta, 31, of Saitama, Japan will challenge Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines. The Japanese challenger won via split decision.

In the co-main event, Alexi “Phet” Serepisos, 24, of New Zealand and Mongkolpetch Petchyindee Academy, 23, of Thailand competed in a Muay Thai contest in the flyweight division. The Thai contender won via unanimous decision.

Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, Thailand and the United Kingdom were also represented at “ONE: Eternal Glory.” Check the complete fight card here.

Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, of the Philippines and Amir Khan, 24, of Singapore had yet another face-off during the kick-off press conference for “ONE: Conquest of Champions” on November 20, 2018 at the City of Dreams Manila in Parañaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It was their second face-off prior to the fight night.

The press conference was hosted by Mitch “The Dragon” Chilson, 40. It was attended by ONE Championship chief financial officer Hua Fung Teh, City of Dreams marketing operations director Nathan Sorenson and Zilingo chief marketing officer Marita Abraham.

“Thank you all for coming and for all the support,” Folayang stated. “Last year, things didn’t go as I expected. I lost the title. But this year is a new chapter.”

“I worked extremely hard to come back here for another opportunity at the belt,” the former ONE Lightweight World Champion added. “I’ve been inspired by my teammates, my coach and all the fans. This is the biggest bout of my career and I am excited to give the best performance of my life.”

Folayang is representing Team Lakay while Khan is training out of Evolve MMA. The latter defeated Bashir “Somchai” Ahmad, 36, of Pakistan at “ONE: Valor of Champions” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila on April 24, 2015.

“I’m so happy to be fighting again in Manila,” Khan pointed out. “This is actually the second time. I fought here four years ago.”

Khan said he has all due respect for Folayang, who he described as a great martial artist. However, the Evolve MMA fighter said he is coming for the title and he has worked extremely hard on his game since the beginning of his career.

“I am one hundred percent confident of becoming world champion,” Khan stated. “Winning that title means everything to me. Me and my coach, we have a solid game plan for this fight.”

“The odds may be stacked against me,” the Singaporean fighter added. “I’m fighting the hometown hero. But I won’t let it affect my performance.”

Reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, 41, of the Philippines and Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli, 35, of Italy also had their second face-off during the press conference. The Italian will challenge the Filipino in the main event of “ONE: Conquest of Champions” while Folayang and Khan are set to compete for the vacant ONE Lightweight World Championship in the co-main event.

Vera, Cerilli, Folayang and Khan had an open workout at the Victory Sports Tower in Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila on November 16, 2018. The two pairs of fighters had their first face-off right after the open workout.
