[PHOTOS] Singapore vs Indonesia: Niko Soe, Eko Roni Saputra fight at ‘ONE: Roots of Honor’ in the Philippines

Singapore and Indonesia were among the 18 countries represented at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” It was the second ONE Championship event in 2019 held in the Philippines.

Featuring two kickboxing contests, two Muay Thai bouts and 11 mixed martial arts matches, “ONE: Roots of Honor” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 12, 2019. In the fourth bout of the evening, Niko Soe, 26, of Singapore faced Eko Roni Saputra, 27, of Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Blue Corner

Saputra is a multiple-time national wrestling champion. He is training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore.

“ONE: Roots of Honor” marked Saputra’s professional MMA debut and ONE Championship debut. He holds a freestyle wrestling record of 116 wins and 10 losses.

Red Corner

Soe started his silat training when he was 8 years old. As an MMA fighter, he has been competing professionally since 2013.

“ONE: Roots of Honor” marked Soe’s second ONE Championship outing. He is training out of Impact MMA in Singapore.

Fight Result

Soe and Saputra competed in an MMA match in the flyweight division. Yoshinori Umeki served as the referee.

Umeki put a stop to the flyweight contest after 3 minutes and 3 seconds in the first round. He raised the hand of Soe, who was declared the winner via technical knockout via doctor stoppage.

Winning at “ONE: Roots of Honor” improved Soe’s professional MMA record to 3 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Saputra now ahs 0 win and 1 loss.

“ONE: Roots of Honor” Main Events

In the co-main event, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 23, of the Philippines challenged reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Yosuke “The Ninja” Saruta, 31, of Japan in a rematch. The Filipino challenger knocked out the Japanese defending champion in the fourth round.

In the main event, reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam defended his belt against former champion Narantungalag “Tungaa” Jadambaa, 43, of Mongolia. The Vietnamese-Australian defending champion knocked out the Mongolian challenger in the second round.

Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba, Japan, Mongolia, Morocco, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Romania, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and the United States were also represented at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” Check the complete results on Conan Daily.

ONE Championship hosted a media day for Eko Roni Saputra, 27, of Indonesia at the Westin Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 5, 2019. With Evolve MMA head coach Eduardo Pamplona, the Indonesian wrestling champion showcased his skills in various demonstrations for media in attendance.

Saputra is set to make his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Roots of Honor” on April 12, 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. During the media day, he said, “I am greatly honored to be part of an amazing company such as ONE Championship.”

“To be among the best martial artists in the world competing on the biggest martial arts platform is definitely a dream come true for me,” Saputra continued. “I have been blessed to have found success in wrestling, and I have every intention of achieving the same in the mixed martial arts world. I am prepared to put in the work and make the sacrifices so that one day, I can bring back a World Championship to Indonesia.”
