China and Indonesia were among the 15 countries represented at “ONE: Legendary Quest.” On the card were both mixed martial arts matches and ONE Super Series contests, featuring both kickboxing and Muay Thai.

ONE Championship held “ONE: Legendary Quest” at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China on June 15, 2019. The sixth bout of the evening was between “Rock Man” Chen Lei, 30, of Changde, Hunan, China and Anthony “The Archangel” Engelen, 33, of Jakarta, Indonesia.

Chen was one of the five hometown heroes who competed at “ONE: Legendary Quest” while Engelen was one of the two representatives of Indonesia. Australia, Brazil, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Morocco, Myanmar, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Scotland, South Korea, Thailand and the United Kingdom were also represented.

On June 12, 2019, Chen and Engelen had their official face-off during the press conference at Yunspace in Shanghai. The event was graced by ONE Championship Greater China chairman Hua Fung Teh and reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 31, of China.

Born in Ermelo, Gelderland, Netherlands on June 23, 1985, Engelen has been competing professionally since 2013 and is a former Indonesia Fighting Championship Lightweight Champion. His Indonesian father Roland Engelen is from Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia and while his mother Inky Engelen-Parbles is Dutch.

Training out of Bali MMA in Bali, Indonesia, Anthony joined ONE Championship in 2015. “ONE: Legendary Quest” marked his 10th bout in the promotion.

Red Corner

Born in Changsha, China on December 31, 1988, Chen is a former Shanghai Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion. As an MMA fighter, he has been competing professionally since 2017 and he in the same year, he joined ONE Championship.

“ONE: Legendary Quest” marked Chen’s sixth ONE Championship bout. He is training of out Equilibrium Beijing in Beijing, China.

Fight Result

Chen and Anthony competed in an MMA match at a catch weight of 67.5 kg. Kemp Cheng served as the referee.

After three five-minute rounds, the catchweight bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Cheng raised the hand of Chen, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: Legendary Quest” improved the professional MMA record of Chen to 6 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Engelen now has 8 wins and 7 losses.

“ONE: Legendary Quest” Main Events

Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 23, of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia faced ONE Championship debutante Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama, 43, of Osaka, Japan in an MMA match in the welterweight division. The Malaysian contender won via unanimous decision.

ONE Super Series debutante Alma Juniku, 18, of Australia challenged reigning ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Stamp Fairtex, 27, of Thailand in the main event. The Thai defending champion won via unanimous decision.

Indonesia and the United States were among the 19 countries represented at “ONE: A New Era” at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 2019. It was the first ever ONE Championship event to take place in the country.

“ONE: A New Era” featured 11 mixed martial arts bouts and four ONE Super Series matches, which include two kickboxing contests and two Muay Thai contests. In the third bout of the evening, Anthony “The Archangel” Engelen, 33, of Indonesia faced Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon, 27, of the United States.

Tonon was one of the three fighters from the U.S. on the “ONE: A New Era” card. Engelen solely represented Indonesia.

Training out of Indogym in Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, Indonesia, Engelen is a former Indonesia Fighting Championships Lightweight Champion. He was born in Ermelo, Gelderland, Netherlands to his Indonesian father Roland Engelen and Dutch mother Inky Engelen.

In Anthony’s previous ONE Championship bouts, he represented both Indonesia and the Netherlands. He represented only Indonesia at “ONE: A New Era,” which marked his ninth outing in the promotion.

Born in Lacey Township, New Jersey, USA, Tonon is training out of Team Renzo Gracie and Evolve MMA. He competed in wrestling in grade school and went on to become a multiple-time No Gi BJJ World Champion.

“ONE: A New Era” marked Tonon’s fifth ONE Championship bout and fourth professional MMA bout. When he made his promotional debut at “ONE Dynasty of Heroes” at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on May 26, 2017, he defeated Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan in a grappling bout.

Fight Result

Engelen and Tonon competed in an MMA match in the featherweight division. Yoshinori Umeki served as the referee.

Umeki put a stop to the featherweight contest after 4 minutes and 12 seconds in the first round when Tonon knocked out Engelen. It was the first technical knockout of the evening.

Winning at “ONE: A New Era” makes Tonon still an undefeated MMA fighter and now holds a professional MMA record of 4 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Engelen now has 8 wins and 6 losses.

In the main event, Aoki challenged reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of the Philippines in a rematch.

Indonesia, the Netherlands and South Korea were among the 14 countries to be represented at “ONE: Eternal Glory” at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 19, 2019. It is the first event of ONE Championship in 2019.

Featured on the fight card were two Muay Thai bouts and 12 mixed martial arts matches. In the fifth bout of the evening, Anthony “The Archangel” Engelen, 33, of Netherlands and Indonesia and “Pretty Boy” Won Il Kwon, 23, of Goyang, South Korea.

Kwon has been competing professionally since 2014. He is training out of Extreme Combat and Top Gym BF.

“ONE: Eternal Glory” marked Kwon’s ONE Championship debut. He entered the cage as an undefeated fighter.

In the main event of “ONE: Eternal Glory,” Yosuke “Tobizaru” Saruta, 31, of Saitama, Japan will challenge Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines. The Japanese challenger won via split decision.

In the co-main event, Alexi “Phet” Serepisos, 24, of New Zealand and Mongkolpetch Petchyindee Academy, 23, of Thailand competed in a Muay Thai contest in the flyweight division. The Thai contender won via unanimous decision.

Brazil, China, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Thailand and the United Kingdom were also represented at “ONE: Eternal Glory.” Check the complete fight card here.

Indonesia, the Netherlands and the Philippines were represented at the ONE Championship event “ONE: Warrior’s Dream,” which took place on November 17, 2018 at the Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. The fight card featured three ONE Super Series striking contests and 11 mixed martial arts matches.

In the ninth bout of the evening, Anthony “The Archangel” Engelen, 33, of Indonesia and the Netherlands faced Jimmy “The Silencer” Yabo, 37, of Cebu City, Philippines. They competed in an MMA match at a catch weight of 72 kg.

A third-degree black belt in taekwondo, Yabo is one of the pioneers of the Philippines martial arts scene. He is known for his quiet demeanor that hides explosive firepower and all of his wins to date have come by way of knockout, which is testament to his fearsome punching power.

A patient fighter who likes to counterpunch, Yabo is as dangerous at the end of every bout as he is at the beginning as shown by his performances. He signed for ONE Championship in 2015 and has already put on several thrilling performances, the most famous of which was when he knocked out Bashir “Somchai” Ahmad, 36, of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan with one punch in just 21 seconds.

A former Indonesian Fighting Championship Lightweight Champion, Engelen trains out of Tatsujin Dojo in Deventer, Netherlands and Alliance Indonesia in Jakarta. The first opponent he defeated in ONE Championship was the late Rocky Batolbatol.

On November 9, 2018, Engelen made his return to the ONE Championship cage and knocked out Meas Meul, 27, of Phnom Penh, Cambodia in the featherweight division at “ONE: Heart of the Lion.” “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” marked the Indonesian-Dutch MMA fighter’s fourth bout in the organization.

Fight Result

Referee Yuji Shimada put a stop to the catchweight bout between Engelen and Yabo at 2:35 of the first round. The Indonesian-Dutch fighter submitted his Filipino opponent via rear-naked choke.

Winning at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” improved Engelen’s professional MMA record to 8 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Yabo now has 5 wins and 7 losses.

“ONE: Warrior’s Dream” Main Events

In the co-main event of the evening, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken, 34, of Helmond, Netherlands and Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre, 36, of Sao Paulo, Brazil battled it out in a ONE Super Series kickboxing contest. The Dutch kickboxer knocked out his Brazilian opponent in the second round.

In the main event, Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 28, of Arsta, Uppsala, Sweden and Tyler McGuire, 32, of Spokane, Washington, United States competed for the vacant ONE Welterweight World Championship. The Swedish contender captured the belt by knocking out his American opponent in the fourth round.
