Russia vs Japan: Alexey Kunchenko, Yushin Okami at ‘UFC Fight Night 142’ in Australia

Russia and Japan were two of the seven countries represented at “UFC Fight Night 142.” The Ultimate Fighting Championship held the mixed martial arts event at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia on December 2, 2018.

“UFC Fight Night 142” featured 12 MMA bouts. In the sixth bout of the evening, Alexey “Wolverine” Kunchenko (Алексей Кунченко), 34, of Tyumen, Russia faced Yushin “Thunder” Okami (岡見 勇信), 37, of Kanagawa, Japan.

Okami was born in Kanagawa on July 21, 1981. He is representing Wajyutsu Keisyukai, an MMA academy based in Nagasaki, Japan.

“UFC Fight Night 142” marked Okami’s 21st bout in the UFC. Before joining the UFC, the Japanese MMA fighter competed in Pancrase and Rumble on the Rock.

Kunchenko was born in Tyumen on May 2, 1984. He is a Muay Thai specialist and a former M-1 Challenge Welterweight Champion.

Training out of Fighter Gym, Kunchenko entered the UFC octagon as an undefeated fighter at “UFC Fight Night 142.” It marked his third bout in the UFC.

Fight Result

Kunchenko and Okami competed in the welterweight division at “UFC Fight Night 142.” After three five-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges.

In the end, the referee raised the hand of Kunchenko, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision. With the victory, the Russian fighter was able to maintain his undefeated record.

“UFC Fight Night 142” marked the second victory of Kunchenko in the UFC. In his promotional debut at “UFC Fight Night 136” on September 15, 2018, he defeated Thiago “Pitbull” Alves, 35, of Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil via unanimous decision.

While Kunchenko now holds a professional MMA record of 20 wins and 0 loss, Okami now has 35 wins and 12 losses. This is Japanese fighter’s seventh loss in the UFC.

“UFC Fight Night 142” Main Event

In the main event, Junior “Cigano” dos Santos, 34, of Cacador, Santa Catarina, Brazil will face Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa, 25, of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in the heavyweight division.
