Vietnam’s Nguyen Thanh Tung: ONE Championship is an incredible organization

Nguyen Thanh Tung was one of the Vietnamese martial artists featured in the open workout held by ONE Championship as a preliminary activity for “ONE: Immortal Triumph” at the Hotel Nikko Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on September 3, 2019. He is set to make his debut in the Singapore-based organization’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.

“ONE Championship is an incredible organization,” Nguyen stated. “The work they have done to bring martial arts to the mainstream and elevate the entire local and international industry, it’s nothing short of awe-inspiring. Because of ONE, athletes like myself are given the chance to shine on the global stage.”

Featuring kickboxing and Muay Thai bouts only, “ONE: Immortal Triumph” is the first ever ONE Championship event that does not have any mixed martial arts match on the card. In the second bout of the evening, Nguyen will face fellow ONE Super Series debutante Shahzaib Rindh of Pakistan in a kickboxing bout in the featherweight division.

“I plan on making the best of my chance to prove to the world that Vietnamese martial artists are a cut above the rest,” Nguyen said. “I am coming into this organization in the best shape of my career and I can’t wait to come out this Friday night and put on a show.”

Taking place at the Phu Tho Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on September 6, 2019, “ONE: Immortal Triumph” is the first ever ONE Championship event to take place in Vietnam. Aside from Vietnam, 14 other countries will be represented namely Australia, Brazil, France, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Russia, Slovakia, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Jo Nattawut: I can beat Giorgio Petrosyan

“Smokin” Jo Nattawut, 29, was one of the Thai martial artists who attended the official “ONE: Dreams of Gold” open workout on July 25, 2019. It took place at the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

Including Nattawut, six fighters will represent Thailand at “ONE: Dreams of Gold.” The others are ONE Atomweight Kickboxing and Muay Thai World Champion Stamp Fairtex, 21, Bangpleenoi Petchyindee Academy, 25, Lerdsila Phuket Top Team, 38, Muangthai PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym, 21, and ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion “The Baby Shark” Petchdam Petchyindee Academy, 21.

ONE Championship will hold “ONE: Dreams of Gold” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok on August 16, 2019. One of the ONE Super Series bouts on the card is a ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix semi-final bout between Nattawut and Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan, 33, of Italy.

“This August, I’m going to shock the world once again and I’m going to take down this giant,” Nattawut said. “I have my eye on the prize, and I’m going to do everything I can to beat Petrosyan and reach the tournament finals.”

It will be a rematch between Petrosyan and Nattawut. The Thai kickboxer lost to his Armenian-Italian rival during their first ONE Super Series encounter.

“I know my opponent is a legend in this sport and I’ve already lost to him before but I’ve made some key changes to my training and overall style,” Nattawut shated,” “I’m not the same fighter I was a year ago when we first met. I’m stronger and faster now and more well-prepared for our second meeting.”

ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion “The Baby Shark” Petchdam Petchyindee Academy, 21, was one of the Thai martial artists who attended the official “ONE: Dreams of Gold” open workout on July 25, 2019. It took place at the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

ONE Championship will hold “ONE: Dreams of Gold” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok on August 16, 2019. In the main event, Petchdam will defend his title from Ilias Ennahachi, 23, of the Netherlands.

“I am excited to get back in the ring and prove myself again in ONE Super Series,” Petchdam stated during the open workout. “Becoming ONE World Champion is one of the greatest achievements of my career and it is such an honor to represent Thailand on the biggest global stage of competition. My opponent is another tough one, who is also well-versed in the kickboxing style.”

“I have to be at my best for this fight but I am confident that my skill and power will carry me to victory,” Petchdam continued. “I’m training very hard for this fight and I want to give the fans a good show.”

Italy and Thailand were among the countries represented at the ONE Championship event titled “ONE: Masters of Destiny” on July 12, 2019. The fight card featured mixed martial arts matches as well as ONE Super Series contests including Muay Thai and kickboxing bouts.

ONE Championship held “ONE: Masters of Destiny” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the main event of the evening, Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan, 33, of Italy faced Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy, 25, of Thailand.

Blue Corner

Petchmorakot is training out of is training out of Petchyindee Academy in Bangkok, Thailand. “ONE: Masters of Destiny” marked his sixth ONE Super Series outing.

Red Corner

Petrosyan is training out of Team Leone Petrosyan in Bereguardo, Pavia, Lombardy, Italy. “ONE: Masters of Destiny” marked his fourth ONE Super Series outing.

Results

Elias Dolaptsis was the referee of the bout between Petrosyan and Petchmorakot, who competed in a quarter-final bout of the ONE Kickboxing Featherweight World Grand Prix. It was the sixth ONE Super Series match of the evening.

After three three-minute rounds, the rematch was left in the hands of the judges namely Ian Cartwright of Canada, Rosenberg Rosete of the Philippines and Eshton Thomas of Malaysia. In the end, Dolaptsis raised the hand of Petrosyan, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: Masters of Destiny” improved the professional kickboxing record of Petrosyan to 100 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws. On the other hand, Petchmorakot now holds a professional kickboxing and Muay Thai record of 158 wins, 35 losses and 2 draws.

Including Italy and Thailand, 20 countries were represented at “ONE: Masters of Destiny.” The others were Australia, Brazil, China, Finland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Scotland, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Timor Leste, Vietnam and the United States.

Petrosyan solely represented Italy. Petchmorakot was one of the two representatives of Thailand.
