Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan were among the 16 countries represented at “ONE: Destiny of Champions” on December 7, 2018. The fight card featured seven mixed martial arts matches and four Muay Thai contests.
ONE Championship held “ONE: Destiny of Champions” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the co-main event of the evening, Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 23, of Kuala Lumpur faced Kiamrian “Brazen” Abbasov, 25, of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Abbasov, a Prime Selection GP Welterweight Champion, was born in Bishkek where he was raised by a single mother. It was also in the capital city of Kyrgyzstan where he began his martial arts journey with Greco-Roman wrestling and later added boxing to his arsenal.
In 2011, Abbasov made his professional MMA debut. On December 3, 2016, he beat three different men in a one-night tournament.
“ONE: Destiny of Champions” marked Abbasov’s second ONE Championship bout. He was the only Kyrgyzstani on the card.
A former ONE Welterweight World Title challenger, Thani is one of the most remarkable athletes Malaysia has ever produced. Unbeaten as an amateur, he captured a Malaysian national championship before turning professional.
As a professional MMA fighter, Thani won six bouts in a row on the global stage of ONE Championship to earn a shot at the title. Aside from training at Monarchy MMA in Kuala Lumpur, he also regularly travels to the United States to sharpen his skills at the world-famous Team Quest.
“ONE: Destiny of Champions” marked Thani’s 11th bout in ONE Championship. He, Jihin “Shadowcat” Radzuan, 19, and Mohammed “Jordan Boy” Mahmoud, 22, were the three hometown heroes on the card.
Thani and Abbasov competed in an MMA bout in the welterweight division. Olivier Coste served as the referee.
Coste put a stop to the welterweight bout between Thani and Abbasov after 2 minutes and 35 seconds in the first round. The Kyrgyzstani contender submitted his Malaysian opponent via rear-naked choke.
Losing to Abbasov downgraded Thani’s professional MMA record to 8 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, the Kyrgyzstani fighter now has 20 wins and 4 losses and he is riding a two-bout winning streak.
