South Korean mixed martial artist Do Gyeom “Undead” Lee, 27, is no longer the reigning URCC Global Featherweight Champion. He has been dethroned by Filipino-American MMA star Mark “Mugen” Striegl, 30.
On September 29, 2018, Striegl and Lee headlined “URCC: Colossal,” which took place at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. This is the first event of the Universal Reality Combat Championship since changing its name to the URCC Global.
Referee Joey Lepiten put a stop to the featherweight championship bout between Striegl and Lee at 2:44 of Round 1. The Filipino-American challenger submitted the Korean defending champion via standing guillotine choke.
Conditioning trainer George Castro of Alliance MMA Gym and A.J. “Pyro” Lias Mansor were in Striegl’s corner at “URCC: Colossal.” Castro is the trainer of reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, 40.
“I’m ready to go any time,” Striegl said when asked whether he prefers to defend his title in 2018 or in 2019. “But first things first. It’s been a long and gruelling training camp. I’m going to enjoy a short break and some good food.”
Dethroning Lee at “URCC: Colossal” improved Striegl’s professional MMA record to 18 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Lee’s record downgraded to 5 wins and 2 losses.
“URCC: Colossal” marked Striegl’s fifth URCC bout. Lee is his second Korean opponent in the promotion.
On February 19, 2011, Striegl made his URCC debut at “URCC Baguio 3: Invasion” where he submitted Crisanto “The Slugger” Pitpitunge of the Philippines via rear-naked choke. On April 28, 2012, Striegl submitted Alcer Lozada of the Philippines via rear-naked choke at “URCC 21: Warpath.”
On August 12, 2017, Striegl submitted Andrew Benibe of the Philippines at “URCC 30.” On December 13, 2017, the former defeated Ki Sung Kim of South Korea via unanimous decision at “URCC: BETS 4.”
